“When it came time to be a parent to Zaya in something that I did not understand, I knew what to do. I knew to love and accept what I did not understand,” Dwyane Wade said as he accepted the challenges and the difficulties of being a father to a trans girl. The 3x Champion even moved to Florida to provide a safe space and community for Zaya. The father of five has, time and again, spoken in support and celebrated his daughter.
This time too, on his Instagram story, the Miami Heat legend wrote, “@zayawade ❤️🤎.” But he did not forget his five-year-old daughter, who was enjoying dancing. “Black Girl Joy” was the caption and Kaavia was dancing around in a hall and moving in circles. The appreciation post for daughters was uploaded after meeting Angel Reese, as Dwyane Wade would be the next guest on her podcast.
The idea of being a part owner of Chicago Sky came to fruition, thanks to Kaavia. “You understand the importance of role models and so, I want my daughter to have that same feeling.” Speaking about being a role model, Dwyane Wade and Zaya worked on a project since the pandemic and launched a trans resource hub called Translatable.

Dwyane Wade discusses Translatable

Thus, Translatable was created for people to find the right information for the LGBTQIA+ community. Dwyane Wade was also not afraid to stand up for his daughter as he felt that the trans community and the LGBTQIA+ community as some of the most attacked communities. The 13x All-Star also said, “All children deserve to feel accepted, to feel loved, and to feel safe.”
