There was that brief moment in 2023 when Michael Jordan’s old home was again a sore point. Added to his difficulties in trying to sell the famous Highland Park mega-mansion, the uninhabited residence had a break-in in April 2023. It appears members of the Jordan family can look back on that incident with a slight degree of humor in 2024. Credit for that goes to one social media blunder.

Instagram page, ‘Nicekicks’ shared the news with the caption, “At this rate, MJ is never gonna sell this place,” on January 31. It accompanied a video that was not well-thought-out. Apart from the first panel of Google Images’ search results regarding the mansion and its recognizable #23 gate, the supposed inside view was not of the actual Jumpman mansion. That was confirmed by the former resident, Marcus Jordan himself, who grew up on this estate. “lol this definitely ain’t the crib,” he commented.

The mansion is reportedly valued at $29 million. But it reeks of His Airness so much, that he hasn’t been able to sell it, leading him to come down as low as $14.9 million since it was listed in 2012. The home still remains on the market with no buyers.

The video came from another Instagram page of someone supposedly touring the billionaire’s 32.000 house on the 56,000 sq. ft. property. The supposedly inaccurate video showed flooded basketball courts and Marcus’ alleged childhood home, which still has a Hello Kitty book lying around. It alleges the dilapidated condition is the reason why the mansion hasn’t been sold yet.

On April 4, 2023, the Highland Park Police Department responded to a call of a burglary in progress. An 18-year-old intruder was arrested at the scene and charged with three misdemeanors. A second intruder, a minor, was reportedly taken into custody too. The most damage they caused was a broken window. The break-in is not a factor hurting the mansion’s sale, though.

The real Jordan mansion

Built in 1995, the then-Chicago Bulls player raised his three eldest children – Jeffrey, Jasmine, and Marcus – with ex-wife, Juanita Vanoy, in this estate. MJ and his current wife, Yvette Prieto, reside in Jupiter, Florida. Marcus is based in Miami with his girlfriend, Larsa Pippen, and his business. Recently, Marcus’ brother Jeffrey shared a throwback of the brothers enjoying bath time with their dad in one of the massive bathrooms of the mansion.

What the fake video doesn’t show is that the real Jumpman mansion has a 500-bottle wine cellar and a cigar parlor. The regulation-sized basketball court is apparently not flooded. There’s also an infinity pool, putting green, tennis court, a theater, and nine bedrooms. Most features come with a custom Michael Jordan touch, which is a realtor’s nightmare.

According to many real estate experts, any buyer would be hard-pressed to decide if they want to keep the Jordan symbols around the house. Meanwhile, Marcus is making sure no imposter property is mistaken for his childhood home.
