Premiered on June 4 on Hulu, Clipped has been a talking point in the NBA community. Notably, the series based on ESPN’s podcast ‘The Sterling Affairs’ navigates through former LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s downfall. And former Clippers’ coach Doc Rivers’ firm stance against the alleged wrongs of Sterling. However, so far, there have been multiple inconsistencies pointed out in the series. While earlier it was Gilbert Arenas pointing out a flaw in Rivers’ portrayal, now it’s Jamal Crawford speaking on his own portrayal in the series.

Notably, J Crossover played 5 seasons with the Clippers, during which he also claimed the NBA Sixth Man of the Year spot for himself twice. As for his own portrayal in ‘Clipped’, Crawford found it fascinating, as he could not find the resemblance between him and Darryl Wesley’s portrayal of him. “It was crazy because the hair was totally different. He had a long sleeve shirt. I’m like, I don’t think that’s me,” he said on the Dan Patrick Show.

The 44-year-old also pointed out the show could have worked better on casting. Apart from his own character, he noticed inconsistencies in J Alphonse Nicholson’s portrayal of Chris Paul as well. Not only did Jamal point out the fault in casting, having been closer to reality, he revealed that the script was different from what really transpired. But he understands its for entertainment. “It’s been hilarious to watch,” he says.

And Jamal Crawford is not the only one to notice these flaws in the mini-series. Doc Rivers’ son, ESPN analyst Auston Rivers too, criticized the series for inaccuracies in casting, especially with Stephen Curry, who despite a few seconds of screentime caught numerous eyes.

However, on his father’s portrayal in the series, Austin stayed careful with his words. He first praised Laurence Fishburne as a legend, but the ESPN analyst believes there are magnitudes of differences between Fishburne’s physique and his father. “The body of my father is just a little bit different. I’m not saying he’s 100% in shape, but he’s built a little different than Laurence Fishburne. We could’ve done a little AI or something there,” he said.

Doc Rivers stood his ground

As stated above, the series encompasses Donald Sterling’s from being the owner of the LA Clippers. The major turn of events was a leaked audio of Sterling. As per the reports, the ex-Clippers owner was involved in an extra-marital affair with a woman named V. Stiviano.

There are claims that Stiviano kept recording Sterling’s conversation because of his Alzheimer’s symptoms. And one of the leaked audio had Sterling say deeply offensive racial remarks. The audio shook the entire NBA community.

What came next was Doc Rivers taking a stand and leaving the team responsibilities while the Clippers were in the playoffs. Subsequently, the team lost and Rivers told NBA Commissioner Adam Silver he won’t return till Sterling is in the league. Not only did Silver place a life-time NBA ban on Sterling, but mandated it on his team. Since then, Steve Ballmer has been the owner of the LA Clippers.
