Carmelo Anthony could soon have his Hall of Fame moment later this year. But before that decision is announced, another first-year eligible player is celebrating the news, albeit in another sport. A 19-year veteran of the sport, CC Sabathia, received the news of being officially inducted into the HOF. Apart from the baseball world, even the NBA community is excited about the news. Apart from Melo, even Matt Barnes, Kevin Durant, and Jeff Teague shared their appreciation.
Despite being a day filled with many such messages, Sabathia re-shared their stories on his Instagram. Teague had a one-word reaction to the Cy Young Award winner, “Congrats.” The Baseball Writers’ Association of America chose Ichiro Suzuki and Billy Wagner alongside CC Sabathia to join the elusive group in Cooperstown. Kevin Durant added, “Yessssssir congrats legend.”
Former Warriors teammate and NBA Champion Matt Barnes also shared a similar message “Salute bro“. After all, Sabathia appeared on 86.8% of the ballots, easily surpassing the 75% threshold necessary for selection. Throughout his career, he was one of just 15 pitchers in Major League history to notch at least 250 wins and 3,000 strikeouts.

And he plans to enter the HOF with a Yankees logo on his plaque. Naturally, another New York legend, Carmelo Anthony, was not far behind in celebrating his ‘family.’ Melo wrote on his Instagram story, “Congrats family 🙌🏾 @cc_sabathia.” He shared the post when the 44-year-old received the call, in a room full of family and friends which was completely different from how the Knicks legend received the news.
HOF induction couldn’t reduce the pain that Carmelo Anthony was feeling
Just like CC Sabathia, even Melo is a 19-year veteran of the sport. Plus, is the 1st time nominee for the HOF, alongside WNBA legend and 4x Champion Sue Bird. The nomination news broke out a month ago, and on April 5, the Class of 2025 will finally be revealed. But the congratulatory message regarding the nomination didn’t happen like we are imagining.

Carmelo Anthony explained he was sick, had a stomach bug, and was “sweating bullets,” when his assistant stated the news. However, later 10x All-Star’s business partner made multiple calls to congratulate Melo. “So she called back to back to back. She was like, yellow and started screaming in the phone. And I’m like, what’s going on? She was like, you Hall of Fame.”
His reaction was also just like his name: mellow. “And I was like, it ain’t there yet. I was my typical self. Like, nah, it ain’t, it’s just a nomination. Because I didn’t have a chance to process it. You know what I mean?”
