Once in a while Dwyane Wade will dive into a social media rabbithole for funsies. He pretty much said he likes to see the haters reveal themselves and go back to his multiple businesses, staying stylish, and being the most supportive dad. After getting his family out of the California wildfires’ path, D-Wade was back on his podcast to reflect on the recent events – including his birthday. But his 43rd rotation around the sun and his abs were not discussed. Certain social media users would rather talk about Wade’s daughter, Zaya. Despite that, Wade refuses to take one popular piece of advice.
On his self-titled podcast, Wade told his co-host, Bob, he reads the comments on his posts – the good ones from friends and family, and also, “I want to go down and see sometimes what people are talking about.” He referred to his recent post when he came out of the water flaunting a six-pack. And he wanted to see if that was the talk of the comments section.
“I had a lot of comments that were nothing about me turning 43. There was nothing about my body. Nothing about none of that. It was all about… my daughter.” 17-year-old Zaya, came out as tr-ns in 2020 and her family has been nothing but supportive. Zaya, Dwyane, and the whole family have titanium skin to the commentary. But there are also concerned fans who advise D-Wade to turn off the comments for his daughter’s sake. Wade actually addressed that on the podcast.

“I say that I’m never turning off my comments if I decide to be on social media…” Wade revealed on the podcast. “The reason I won’t turn off comments, not because of what people are saying, is nice to me. Because it’s not the way the world works. Everyone has a different opinion.” He proceeded to say that these platforms exist for expressing different opinions. He’s not going to seek out only positive comments or take the negativity personally.
He said something similar to the trolling over his questionable statue the Miami Heat installed in 2024. Wade says keeping those comments on is like ‘education,’ that is learning about different life experiences from the comments, both good and bad. And also, “I actually enjoy sometimes, actually reading some of the comments just to see, you know, where people’s minds are.”

Note: Zaya Wade doesn’t turn off comments either. But in 2022, Wade said he restricts comments on her page to protect her mental health. Those security features remain on her Instagram.
Wade says that the comments make it sound like Zaya came out only yesterday. But she’s been thriving in a fashion career for six years now without letting the negativity affect her. Translatable also got Zaya honored at OUT 100 in 2024, highlighting she’s a strong advocate for the community. And often, Wade doesn’t mind being the punching bag.

Only a day after this episode dropped, Wade was flexing his trip to Paris with his wife, Gabrielle Union, repping Tiffany & Co. and supporting Pharrell Williams’ brand collab. Wade, Gab, Pharrell, Callum Turner, and their amazing glam team are the faces in this post. Yet among the comments fawning over the cute couple, there were mentions of Zaya in crude ways.

Concerned fans would also comment, “Bro needa turn off comments atp” or “3 minutes and already zaya comments turn off comments bro.” But as he stated yesterday, that won’t be happening.
Whether it’s about his righteously meme-able statue, the 50-50 financial role with Gabrielle Union, or Zaya’s life, Dwyane Wade can take the commentary with a grain of salt. It sounds a lot like the purpose of Dwyane and Zaya Wade’s initiative, ‘Translatable,’ a platform for the LGBTQIA+ community to express themselves. Whether it’s Translatable or Instagram, Wade’s not going to stop anyone from expressing themselves.
Although he does say, “People are so infatuated with hate and being ugly.” Yet, “if my page is an outlet for you to need to be ugly and hate, God bless you, but I’m not turning off my comments because this is something that you want to take time out to do right.”

He did, however, whine to Zaire, “dang, ain’t say nothing about my abs.” That’s injustice, right there!
