With the new NBA season commencing today, various legends have made their pick of the title favorites.? In a recent ?X? post by ?NBA TV?, Isiah Thomas and 1994 Rookie of the Year Grant Hill revealed their ?Top 5? NBA teams list. Interestingly, both legends had the same two teams holding down the #1 and #2 spots. Zeke provided some insight into his picks.

“If I?m looking at the top 5, I?m looking at the Nuggets (Denver), you?ve got to give the champions their respect. They?ve got the MVP. And then I?m looking at Phoenix (Suns,). You know, when you got Booker and Durant and Beal, you?ve got a chance to win every single game on the road or at home.?

Isiah Thomas further added, ?What the Celtics did. What the Bucks did, the Lakers. I mean, you can go down the line and look at every single team and you can say they?ve got 2-3 studs on their team that not only can come into your building at any time but can also protect home court.?

According to Isiah Thomas: the Denver Nuggets, the Phoenix Suns, the Boston Celtics, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Los Angeles Lakers (in that specific order) are his picks for his ‘Top 5? NBA teams in the new season.

Can the Nuggets win their second straight?

Under the two-time MVP?s leadership, the Denver Nuggets won their first-ever NBA Championship in 2023 with Nikola Jokic leading the way. 4 months later, both Hill and Thomas have placed the $1.93 billion franchise as the title favorites yet again.

If they are proven right, the Nuggets would become only the 5th team in NBA history to win their first two titles in consecutive fashion.

Zeke and his Pistons did it in the ’80s, Michael Jordan and the Bulls followed suit in the ’90s. In the same decade, during MJ’s brief hiatus from the league, Hakeem Olajuwon and the Rockets also won their first two titles with back-to-back championships. Even the Los Angeles Lakers‘ first two championships were won in consecutive fashion in 1949 and 1950.

Of course, teams like the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors have also repeated, winning titles in consecutive years. But the difference is that those franchises had already won their first championship years before they repeated.
