Charles Barkley is not a newcomer in the golf world. Fans and golf professionals have seen Chuck’s complex relationship with the sport grow over the years. Despite his public struggles with his swing, the 1993 NBA MVP has put in a lot of hours to get better. Recently, he added another feather to his golfing cap as he joined hands with a famed PGA tour veteran. He helped the legend’s golf charity tournament raise significant funds while getting a few swings in himself.

Charles Barkley honored the event as the honorary legend

For the 31st anniversary of the Jay Sigel Invitational Tournament, 11x NBA All-Star Charles Barkley was invited as the honoree. In the previous month, the official Instagram page of the organization shared the news with the public. The annual event took place on September 18 at the prestigious Aronimink Golf Club in Philadelphia. Notably, Barkley was drafted by the 76ers in 1984, playing there for the first 8 seasons of his career. After the golf event, Sir Charles was seen posing for photographs. He was  alongside PGA veteran Jay Sigel and Joseph Carver, M.D., the Chief of Staff at Abramson Cancer Center.

The event achieved remarkable success by raising $300,000 for the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute, where the proceeds will support research efforts related to breast and prostate cancer.

Around 175 golfers, 36 female tennis players, sponsors, and friends came together on the same golf course, sharing their love for the game and the cause.

Among the notable attendees were individuals like Michael Stamm, Ric Anderson, Mike Uffner, John Riley, and many others. Notably, aside from his role as the Honoree, the 3x IBM awardee also actively participated in the game.

It’s unclear if it surfaced during this event but the memory of Chuck’s unconventional golf swing remains etched in the minds of golf and NBA fans.

Despite harboring a personal dislike for his swing, Chucks refused to give up. Over the years, the champ has persistently honed his golfing skills.

While reaching a professional level of ability may remain out of reach, his progress has earned him praise. He was even offered a lucrative offer to join LIV Golf. Moreover, the legend is an avid supporter of the tournament.

Additionally, he stands as a fervent supporter of LIV tournaments and has even gone so far as to defend them. He expressed his belief that PGA TOUR golfers can be overly critical.

Although he ultimately did not join LIV Golf, his unwavering passion for the game remains as steadfast as ever.
