Manuel Jaimes better be ready. Rolly Romero is packing the Mamba Mentality and the Fist of Fury. Ahead of their matchup on Saturday, Rolando Romero’s custom gear sent social media into a tizzy. He’s reportedly going to give homage to Bruce Lee and Kobe Bryant through his one-of-a-kind gloves and shoes. Aztek Kustom, the professional customizer to major athletes shared the first glimpse of what Romero’s going to wear at the T-Mobile Arena ring.

Romero’s Nike Machomai 3s boxing shoes were jazzed up to look like the Kobe 5 Protro Bruce Lees. Nike originally released the Bruce Lee theme of the Kobe 5 Protro in 2010. His entire gear is in an identical color scheme while his gloves say “Ro-Lee,” instead of Rolly, with cool claw marks across them.

For an extra touch, Aztek customized yellow and black co-ords reminiscent of the unforgettable Bruce Lee tracksuit for Romero’s team. This is going to give the former super lightweight champ an extra intimidating factor in his 10-round tilt with Jaimes in Las Vegas. It’s a must-win for him after losing to Isaac Cruz earlier this year while Jaimes is on a four-fight winning streak.

This is a first to see him channel two icons in a fight. It’s not only cool but quite the mind game. Bryant’s love and admiration for Bruce Lee is well-documented. He could recite lines from the Bruce Lee cult classics to his opponents. He even got into the zone by watching movies like Enter the Dragon before the game.

The legendary star’s art of Jeet Kune Do, Lee’s discipline, and mental fortitude inspired him and was the foundation of the Mamba Mentality. So when you’re channeling that Mamba Mentality like Romero is, you’re getting some Bruce Lee flair, too.

From one legend to another, Kobe Bryant’s tribute to Bruce Lee

The limited edition Nike Kobe Protro 5 dedicated to Bruce Lee was an instant sellout over a decade ago. Kyrie Irving boasts of owning a pair. The sneakers, though, were only the surface of Bryant’s tribute to his inspiration. He said, “He was really big on sharing his knowledge and hoped he could inspire. Not to learn how to fight, but through the art of fighting, learn how to be a better person. That’s what I want to pass on to the future generations.”

Can Rolly Romero channel the spirit of Kobe and Bruce Lee to dominate the boxing ring?

Have an interesting take?

The Black Mamba referred to the superstar as his muse when he unveiled an envy-worthy tribute in 2017. Bryant had the Nike Kobe Zoom V customized to reflect Lee’s yellow and black jumpsuit. He added the Enter the Dragon signature and the red claw marks/slashes into the design. Kobe also laced up in Bruce Lee-inspired colorways of the Kobe 9 and 11 Elite Low.

Bryant’s Lee fanaticism infected Kyrie too. With the Lakers legend’s permission, Irving released the Nike Kyrie 3 dubbed the “Mamba Mentality Bruce Lee.” After Bryant’s passing, his widow Vanessa teased the retro-release of his favorite shoe. So his love for another late legend lives on.
