Decades after first tasting championship glory, two billionaire NBA legends, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan, are reliving it once again—but this time, in different arenas. The two titans, who famously clashed in Jordan’s first of six NBA titles, now set the blueprint for post-NBA success with their investments in other sports leagues. Johnson is celebrating a potential championship with the Dodgers and following the Lakers’ promising start, while Jordan’s 23XI Racing team is heading to the NASCAR finals. Both icons continue to thrive, expanding their winning legacy beyond basketball.
The Los Angeles Lakers are 3-0 after beating Sacramento 131-127 on Sunday night. At the same the Los Angeles Dodgers are leading the MLB World Series 2-0 over the Yankees. This is not only huge for Angelites but also for Lakers legend and part owner of the Dodgers, Magic Johnson. In typical mood-boosting boss fashion, Earvin “Magic” Johnson was on X with an enthusiastic message for Lakers and Dodgers nation.
“What a magical weekend it’s been for me and Cookie! Our Dodgers are up 2-0 in the World Series, the Lakers are 3-0 and currently leading the West, our Commanders got a crazy win over the Bears and are currently first in the NFC East Conference, and now our MLS team LAFC just won their first playoff game against Vancouver! I’m hoping this energy carries over to the Washington Spirit as they begin their Playoff run!” Johnson wrote.

Yes, Magic has a lot more to celebrate. The Washington Commanders are on a redemptive arc with a 6-2 record. LAFC, which he’s also a part owner of, started the MLS playoffs with a 2-1 win over Vancouver.
How many rings that adds to Magic’s collective 14 rings (his five NBA championship and his wins as a team owner) remains to be seen. Meanwhile his best friend is this close to adding a NASCAR championship to his trophy room.

Michael Jordan is about to have a Magic Johnson experience
Magic Johnson is yet to make a racing investment but he can live that out vicariously through Michael Jordan. Since establishing 23xi racing in 2020, MJ is finally close to winning a NASCAR championship. He’s not had the same good fortune as Magic, as the Charlotte Hornets didn’t come that close to a win under his tenure. So this one is a huge deal for the 6x NBA champion.
The star of 23xi, Tyler Reddick outraced Ryan Blaney in the final lap at Homestead-Miami Speedway and won a spot in the NASCAR Cup series. Jordan was so happy watching Reddick win, he had one of his rare expressive moments in public. He caught Reddick in a hug and told him, “Yeah, baby! Good job, kid! Man, good job.”

“Little kid drove his a** off,” Jordan told NBC Sports later. “I’m proud of him. Oh man, he just let go. He just went for it, and I’m glad. We needed it. We needed it.”
This would be 23xi’s first NASCAR Cup appearance. Now Jordan is within reach of winning in another league like Magic.
