NBA champ Dirk Nowitzki found the love of his life even with his eyes covered. Before his wedding to Jessica Olsson, the German legend had to identify his wife among five face-covered women. It was a family tradition to be followed before the wedding. And of course, he didn’t lose! “I smelled her to find the right one. So, I got lucky there. But that was just an experience that I’ll never forget,” Nowitzki said about the tradition.

Jessica grabbed a lot of attention and headlines when she was spotted with the former NBA player at the ESPYS Awards on July 13, 2011. However, the lady has always stayed away from the public eye as much as possible. Who is Jessica Olsson apart from her identity as the NBA player’s wife? Born to a Swedish father and a Kenyan mother on November 27, 1977, Jessica grew up alongside her twin brothers, Marcus and Martin. She isn’t entirely new to the sports world, as her brothers are professional soccer players.

However, she had different dreams. After graduating from the University of Stockholm, she pursued a master’s degree in International Business Administration from the European Business School in Germany.

She began her career with a job as a project manager at CSI Sports. Following this, she took up different roles which also involved her passion for arts. She works at the Dallas Art Gallery. As per sources, she currently holds the position of director at the gallery. Jessica reportedly boasts a net worth of more than $1 million as per Affair post. Apart from that she is involved in numerous charity foundations. The 41-year-old is also part of the Goss-Michael Foundation. And that’s how she met her husband.

How did Jessica Olsson meet Dirk Nowitzki?

The two first met in 2010 at a charity event for Sports for Education and Economic Development. Sparks must have flown at their first encounter, as the two began dating soon after. The two tied the knot in 2012 with two beautiful events. One was the Kikuyu wedding held in Jessica’s hometown Nanyuki in Kenya and the other was a small event in Germany. However, the highlight was the one in Kenya as mentioned before. It was a refreshing experience for both.

Speaking of his wedding, Nowitzki said, “She didn’t really grow up in Kenya. Her dad’s Swedish and her mom is from Kenya. They have lived in Sweden basically her entire life. So this is new to both of us.”

The most interesting part for the champ was the tradition of finding his wife. While he initially tried to look for a woman with the same height as his then-fiancée, Nowitzki was able to recognize her by her scent. Had he lost the game, he would have had to give a small gift, such as a goat, as punishment per the tradition.

Jessica and the Dallas Mavericks star welcomed their first child, Malaika Nowitzki in July 2013. Their two sons, Max and Morris were born in March 2015 and November 2016, respectively.

In the same interview with Andscape, Nowitzki spoke about raising his kids in a much different way than he was raised. “What I’m trying to do now with my kids is raise them with love. So they got to show you authority, got to show some respect,” Nowitzki said. The 14x NBA All-Star further added, “Not anything goes. That’s not how it works around here. So you try to find a nice little mix where they feel the love. But also, they feel a tough hand every now and then.”

The Nowitzki family currently lives in Dallas. The couple are often seen together at Charity events. This is one thing the two share a passion for, even if their choice of sport is different, with Jessica’s favorite being tennis!
