I got no reason to be a MJ fan. That motherfu**er slapped me in the back of my head one day,” says Kwame Brown who was the first overall pick of a new era of Michael Jordan when the 6X champion came back from his second retirement to assume new duty as president of basketball operations and part owner of the Washington Wizards. And despite his stance, having been one of the few to get a closer view of MJ’s work ethic, Brown has reasons to commend the Bulls icon.

Appearing on the Role Player Podcast, the 2001 no.1 overall pick reasoned his respect for Michael Jordan speaking of his workout routine. “I joined the Breakfast Club cuz I couldn’t believe it.” He couldn’t believe that 39-year-old MJ would work out early in the morning — 5:45 — but a pleasant surprise thanks to Jordan’s love for the game. “He never cheated the game,” Brown adds.

Continuing his point about not cheating, Brown states, “You think MJ didn’t have the power to bring both of his boys to the Washington Wizards? Come on now. He never would cheat the game like this. You gotta earn this sh**.” Jordan Taylor, the host of the show, however, opposed the remark, saying that there wasn’t a case for it because of their performance.

Jeffrey Jordan played 4 seasons of college basketball but could only manage 131 games, and would start just 3 of them. In fact, his average points total was lower than his starts (1.3 points and 1 assist per game). Brown was adamant about his point nonetheless, “It don’t matter about your case he the owner of the team.” Also, Michael Jordan’s oldest son’s college career started in 2007-08. Another reason for him not being drafted for the team from DC.

Brown’s arguments on ‘cheating the game’ stem from the fact that he is no fan of Bronny James’ NBA draft. Taylor’s attempt to make a case therein, would yet again fail to convince the Wizards star. “No way possible you can make a case. A guy have a heart condition like that and get a four-year guaranteed contract. No way possible,” he asserted.

Michael Jordan’s first recruit was unhappy about Bronny James

After the first summer league game of the season, Brown did not feel the hype matched Bronny’s performance. On his YouTube channel Kwame Brown Bust Life, he explained what he was looking for in the 19-year-old.

“I’m Bronny James, that’s the attitude you supposed to have. You coming in here with this nice guy bullsh** that ain’t going to work.” In the first game, the Los Angeles Lakers rookie scored 2 but attempted only 9 shots. Brown wants the oldest child of the James clan to establish himself on the court with his domination and earn people’s respect.

The summer league is done, but the performance from Lakers #9 was nothing spectacular. But even Brown, who was the Michael Jordan’s first recruit as the president of Wizards, could only manage 3 starts in the entire debut season, averaging 4.5 points, and 3.5 rebounds. Unless Kwame Brown sees Bronny dominating the court, he isn’t going to change his opinion. But is it fair to judge a player by only summer league actions?
