One particular moment stood out during the first game, as Wembanyama faced what ESPN announcer Doris Burke called his “welcome to the NBA” moment. Defending a pick-and-roll play involving Charlotte Hornets guard Nick Smith Jr. and center Kai Jones, Wembanyama found himself caught between the two players. Smith capitalized on the situation by throwing an alley-hoop pass to Jones, who soared above the 7’5 center for a thunderous dunk that served as a reminder of the level of athleticism in the NBA.
