Paul Pierce, in his time, was a scary opponent to face. The 2008 Finals MVP was a three-level scorer who went on to score 26,397 in his career. His best game came during a regular-season game against the Cleveland Cavaliers when he dropped a career-high 50 points in 2006. Pierce has always seen himself as one of the best players in the league, and previously, he was recalling some some of his best plays against legends like Michael Jordan.
But when you are that talented and able to score on anyone at will, it’s easy to understand the confidence. But recently, even Paul Pierce was baffled by the scoring of a young and upcoming basketball player with a similar name to his own.

The name Paul Pierce is iconic, and what’s even more iconic is his own nickname, ‘The Truth‘. But this young 12-year-old boy has a similar name to the Boston Celtics legend. He is named Pierce Paul. Not only that, the youngster recently went out and broke the 2008 NBA champion’s record.
In a game, the young player dropped 61 points on great shooting from three, going 15 of 20. Overtime posted the highlight on Twitter and captioned it “12 year old Pierce Paul dropped 61 PTS in a single game last weekend. 61 PTS 15/20 3PM“.
The Truth was surprised to see this and reposted it on Twitter with a bunch of open-eyed emojis. Pierce Paul, you have Paul Pierce’s attention!

Only time will tell how this young star is going to develop further. But he has already broken Paul Pierce’s record. As history has shown, all records are meant to be broken, and the newer generation will always take over their idols in the league.

Three months ago, a clip resurfaced of Paul Pierce guarding Michael Jordan when he was with the Washington Wizards. Jordan was 40 at the time, but both Pierce and Jordan were All-Stars in the East. After seeing the video, Pierce had the same open-eyed reaction to it as well.
Jordan pump faked and tried a mid-range shot, but Paul Pierce timed it perfectly and blocked the shot. The ball was tipped to Joe Johnson, who then dunked the ball at the other end.

With young players developing quicker than they used to, many players in the 2023 NBA draft have already proven themselves to be among the best in the NBA. It is not far before players start scoring 50 points in their rookie season itself.
