What makes a person the highest-paid NBA coach? The straightforward answer to this question would be years of dedication and unwavering determination, just like Jason Kidd. And, this is not something that he got all of a sudden. After accumulating a long list of accolades including the NBA championship in 2011 and the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 1995, Kidd finally took over the profession as a head coach in 2013. And now, eleven years later, his new contract surpasses the $100 million figure.
Kidd has risen to the limelight as an exceptionally talented coach. After becoming an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, he reunited with the Dallas Mavericks in 2021. This was a turning point for the team as he led them towards the Western Conference Finals. However, the Dallas Mavericks only had his contract till 2024-25.
But, will a team give up on a coach with years of excellence in guiding players? Of course not, as they already signed a deal this Monday morning. “We are excited to have Coach Kidd continue to lead our team throughout the coming years with this well-earned contract extension,” said Patrick Dumont, governor of the team. He added, “Kidd led our team to two playoff appearances in three seasons, and we are looking forward to his leadership in continuing to build and grow this already great franchise.”

But, signing a contract with Jason’ is no easy deal. He has already earned $70,900,263 as a player and $24,000,000 for the past three years as a coach. Therefore, the current deal promises him an estimated amount of more than $100 million from Mavs alone! This leaves us with the question – why did the Mavericks agree to sign this huge amount?
Dallas inking a deal with Jason Kidd
Amidst the news about the ending of Jason’s contract with Dallas, a rumor aired that the Lakers were interested in his services and were ready to hire him. Therefore, the Dallas Mavericks offered Jason an extension not only for his guiding excellence but also to fend off the Lakers’ interest in Jason.
Now, Kidd is not only tasked with offering guiding excellence to the team but also ensuring the Mavs’ franchise player, Luka Doncic, has fun with the team while embarking on his seventh NBA season. Now, the question is: Will Jason be able to do the task? Will Dallas once again witness drawbacks as in the 2023 playoff season?
