Golden State Warriors have officially ruled out Klay Thompson for the remainder of the season. The Dubs took to Twitter to rule the five-time NBA All-Star out.
The announcement does not come as a surprise given the happenings around Thompson’s injury. He had initially suffered the injury in June during the last Game six of season’s NBA Finals. In July, he underwent surgery for a torn left ACL. For a while now, Thompson has been under rehabilitation.
“This is what I expected from the beginning given the severity of the injury,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said prior to their game against Houston Rockets on Thursday. “And the normal timetable [for recovery], and so here we are. It’s no surprise.”

In spite of the injury, Thompson found himself in the initial list of players announced that could represent Team USA in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Thompson was a part of the national side that won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Kerr said that Thomspon being a part of Team USA in Tokyo remains a possibility.

“It’s not off the table,” Kerr said. “It’s still a possibility. We haven’t really discussed it. I think the [Olympic] team meets in July, so it’s still quite a ways away. But it’s really not anything we’re discussing at this point. It’s still a possibility … obviously, his health is the No. 1 concern, and so we’ll kind of cross that bridge when we come to it.”

After reaching the finals in each of their last five seasons, the golden franchise from San Francisco has struggled this season. While a disappointing trade season was a part of the reason for their dismal season, injuries to their star players worsened things.
With Klay Thompson already injured, the Warriors suffered another setback when star man Stephen Curry suffered a hand injury just four games into the season. With just 12 wins in the season so far, the Warriors will fail to qualify for the playoff for the first time in seven years. However, fans could at least see Curry back in action before the end of the season according to their coach.
