2K Sports has been keeping fans on their toes with regular updates about the next-gen edition of NBA 2K21. Recently they announced the player ratings, and before that, it was the new badges and takeovers. Now. their latest update, although minor, is a huge sigh of relief for Kobe Bryant fans.
After having an egg-head version for the past few years, 2k has finally fixed the player face for the Lakers legend. Players had been complaining for a long time now, and 2K finally took notice. In the earlier games, Kobe’s face looked like there were no details and just embarrassing for a player of such stature.
The next-gen version looks much cleaner and more detailed. While the tweet by NBA 2KTV says “all the different versions of Kobe’s have been updated for next-gen!” they haven’t shown a picture of Frobe aka Afro Kobe.

Evolution of Kobe Bryant throughout 2K
From starting out as an 89 overall player on the first-ever 2K game, the Sega NBA 2K, Kobe was an 85 overall player when he retired in 2016. But in his career, he has held that top spot in the ratings on multiple occasions. During the stretch between 2K7 to 2K11, he was the highest-rated player (tied) for 5 consecutive games.
His player face has also seen a lot of changes over the years. Many may argue that his game face in 2K15 and 2K16 was much better than the ones in recent games.
Many more player faces fixed for next-gen
While there have been a few players who have gone worse in the next-gen version, like Jimmy Butler and Trae Young, there are many players who have got a long-overdue improvement.
Celtics star Jayson Tatum finally has his actual beard in the next-gen version. Suns’ Devin Booker also got his beard and an overall update too, after having the same face scan for a few years. Others like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, and James Harden have also got an update that looks more realistic and it is a good upgrade from current-gen.
