For ages, there was never a conversation about the WNBA facing the NBA. It was never even regarded to be competitive. That might have changed now all thanks to Sabrina Ionescu. The New York Liberty guard put on a stellar display of shooting, and she did so from the NBA three-point line while facing off against the greatest – Stephen Curry.

In the build-up to the revolutionary matchup, Ionescu was originally meant to shoot from the WNBA range. However, she requested to stand as an equal to Curry. She claimed to have practiced from that range. Out of her first ten shots, she made nine, better than anyone that night. She finished with 26, which was famously the number of the night.

But she was facing the GOAT shooter. The environment or commonality never mattered to him. It came down to the final rack when he finished with 29 to win the contest. Yet the respect for Ionescu only amplified. Even NFL legend Shannon Sharpe gave her flowers for her tremendous effort.

Shannon Sharpe reacts to Sabrina Ionescu vs Stephen Curry challenge

Sat down with Chad Johnson, Sharpe discussed the NBA All-Star weekend. From critiquing the intensity of the All-Star game to making some polarizing opinions, Unc did it all. They also spoke about the transcending event where Ionescu and Curry had a shoot-out to light up the city of Indiana.

According to him, Ionescu had nothing to be ashamed of. The three-time Super Bowl champ and Hall of Fame tight end even suggested she bridged the gap between men’s and women’s basketball by shooting from the NBA line.

“Ocho, I feel she acquitted herself very well. And look, it’s a loss I get that. But I think she acquitted herself, I think she did the women’s game quite well because she lost by three. Had she lost by ten, maybe people would have said ‘Well, if she would have shot from the women’s line’ or this or that. Just go with this. If you can shoot the basketball you can shoot the basketball,”. said Sharpe.

Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson readily agreed.

Ionescu did lose, but she achieved so much more. She did something pioneering for the WNBA. The new generation star proved that no bounds can chain up the women. If they explore the possibility, nothing is out of the realm of possibility. She won the respect of her peers, the NBA, and the basketball fraternity.

Additionally, her score would ultimately tie the best three-point shooting score barring Stephen Curry. Damian Lillard won his second contest with that very same score. So she has no reason to hold her head down. Sabrina Ionescu is the first to begin a revolution. After setting such a promising example, others are bound to follow.
