Former Boston Celtics Player Wants a Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield Triology

Former Boston Celtics player Kendrick Perkins wants another showdown between boxing legends Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.

Both Tyson and Holyfield haven’t been in action for a while now after having enjoyed highly successful careers. Tyson was the youngest boxer to hold a heavyweight title at the age of 20. He has won 50 fights in his illustrious career.

Although he last fought in 2005, his recent posts on social media are hinting at a return to the ring. He even posted a training video on Instagram saying, “I am back.”

Like Tyson, Holyfield, also a legendary boxer, hinted at a return. He is the only boxer in history to win the undisputed championship in two weight classes. He reigned as the undisputed champion at cruiserweight in the late 1980s and at heavyweight in the early 1990s. His last fight came at the age of 48 against Brian Neilsen in 2011.

He too posted a training video on social media raising speculations of a return.

To the video of Holyfield training, Perkins tweeted: “I’ll pay to see Mike Tyson and Holyfield go at it again.”

Perkins certainly might not have been the only one to have thought after it when both the fighters posted similar videos on successive days.

Tyson and Holyfield have fought twice against each other- in 1996 and 1997. The second fight, quote infamously, had to be stopped after the former bit latter’s ears.

Boxing fans will certainly enjoy another fight between the two rivals.

On speculations of Tyson returning to boxing, the Sun quoted a source saying: “Mike has ruled out the prospect of the exhibition bout in Australia because he does not want to fight a cross-over athlete.

“If Mike returns to boxing, it will only be to fight another bona fide boxer.”
