In October 2022, the NBA world laid eyes on one of the most anticipated docuseries: The Redeem Team. At the core was the impact of Kobe Bryant, the Hall of Famer who gave Team USA the much-needed boost. It was a turning point for USA basketball, which had come off an embarrassing finish in the 2004 Olympics. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade brought the story to life for the basketball junkies to enjoy. And recently, the series received a well-reputed award.

Wade, who is an executive producer of the Netflix series shared his emotions on the recent success.

A Kobe Bryant and LeBron James series is now an award winner

Dwyane Wade took to Instagram to share the celebratory news with his fans. ‘The Redeem Team’ series won the Sports Emmy in the outstanding long documentary category. Unsurprisingly, the Miami Heat legend was ecstatic. Filled with gratitude, he wrote on his Instagram, “Setting a new standard for American basketball— on and off the court. What an honor to receive the Sports Emmy for outstanding long documentary.”

The three-time NBA champion shared a more intimate reaction on his Instagram story. “Blessed to be a part of this team as a player and as a producer,” wrote Wade reacting to the elating news.

It was a story of the rise from the literal ruins. Before the 2004 debacle, USA basketball was the dominant force on the international stage. After NBA superstars took the honor of representing the nation, the best of the best came together to form a team of dreams. However, the 2004 bronze medal hurt the legacy of The USA more than anything.

They needed to bounce back to their glory days. And so, they did with the addition of a mentor of sorts in Kobe Bryant. His impact ran far past the court. His work ethic inspired LeBron James, Wade, and the entire team. The Mamba was the leader of the squad and made the daunting plays, hustled for each possession, and set everything in motion – truly leading by example.

The documentary didn’t just celebrate their achievements together, but also Kobe Bryant. All legends who were part of the team spoke highly of the five-time champion. Now, with an Emmy attached to the series, it is one of the most apt ways to honor the legacy he left behind.
