WNBA player Brittney Griner has been in exile in Russia for over 200 days now. Griner was detained at the Sheremetyevo International Airport on Feb 17, 2022, with alleged ‘transportation of drug’ charges. After an trial, the Russian court sentenced her to nine years in prison. Ever since Griner’s arrest, the US authorities have been working on bringing her back to the country. Additionally, Griner’s wife, Cherelle Griner and several other celebrities are doing their best to help in the Brittney Griner case.

Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James, Lisa Rinna, Justin Bieber, Kerry Washington, and Amy Schumer were among several other famous personalities who have urged people to come together and help Griner get back home safely. They encouraged people to not let the talk of Griner’s ‘wrongful detainment’ die down.

Amidst the ongoing interactions between the US and the Russian authorities, Griner’s wife Cherelle broke her silence on the case.

Cherelle Griner panicked after receiving a message from Brittney Griner

About three months after Brittney Griner was detained, her wife Cherelle broke her silence when she made an appearance in Good Morning America.?Cherelle urged President Joe Biden to take immediate action on the matter and use his ‘power to get it done’.?

Cherelle had reportedly spoken with the Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and is waiting for the US government to really show that Griner is indeed their top priority.

She also revealed that since Griner’s detention, they were only able to remain in touch through occasional letters. She added that before that, the couple had been in touch through text messages until Griner’s phone was taken away from her. Cherelle recalled the last chat conversation she had with the Phoenix Mercury star.

“She started texting me around 2 a.m. that morning,” Cherelle revealed. ” Babe, babe, babe, wake up, they have me in this room. I don?t know what?s going on,'” she recounted the text.

Furthermore, Cherelle added that after receiving the message, she asked Griner who ‘they’ were and what room she was talking about.

“‘The customs people, they just grabbed me while I was going through and they have me in this room,'” Cherelle relayed Griner’s text.

Cherelle also said that she appreciated the WNBA for putting effort to keep Griner’s case in the front line. She added that this would make Griner feel better and assured that she wouldn’t be forgotten.
