Last season, NBA superstar Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors won their fourth title in the last years. Head coach Steve Kerr has been a huge factor in the success of the Warriors as they cemented themselves as a dynasty. However, it is not just him; he receives immense help from his team of coaches and staff. Assistant coach Kenny Atkinson is one among them. Atkinson was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2016 to 2020. After one year with the Los Angeles Clippers as an assistant coach, Atkinson joined the Warriors last year.

Before joining the Nets, Atkinson worked as an assistant coach for the New York Knicks from 2008 to 2012 and then with the Atlanta Hawks from 2012 to 2016. In his three with the Nets, he helped them clinch the playoffs once, in his last season.

Atkinson is a very talented coach who obviously wants to be a head coach again like most assistant coaches. However, he loves his current job with the Dubs. So much so that he rejected joining the Charlotte Hornets as head coach. He chose to stay with Curry and the Warriors as an assistant coach and rejected working as the head coach under CEO Michael Jordan.

Stephen Curry and the Warriors will now face the Hornets next. With three wins from the first five games, the Warriors will be looking to make a good run. Also, with this game, Kenny Atkinson will face the team he almost joined as the head coach. Recently, Atkinson talked about it.

?I didn?t love how it went down,? Atkinson said. ?But I?m not going to disparage (the Hornets) in any way.??

Head coach Steve Kerr was relieved Atkinson chose to stay after losing another assistant coach Mike Brown to the Sacramento Kings.

However, his former teammate Michael Jordan might not be very pleased with Atkinson’s decision to turn down the offer after interviewing with the Hornets during the playoffs. The Hornets then signed one of their former head coaches, Steve Clifford. He was the head coach of the organization from 2013 to 18. After spending the next three years as the head coach of the Orlando Magic, he has come back.
