The release of Brittney Griner in exchange for Viktor Bout has stirred a lot of controversies lately. Many are unhappy about the release of the dangerous arms dealer. On the other hand, many are disappointed with leaving behind former Marine Paul Whelan in his Mordovian penal colony. Furthermore, the treatment and lack of help received by another American woman who was detained in Russia around the same time was met with a huge backlash as well. In the last few weeks, many have given their thoughts about the whole ordeal. Recently, Ben Shapiro, a conservative political commentator, sounded off on the release of Griner.

Shapiro is also friends with UFC commentator and popular podcaster, Joe Rogan. Rogan once stated that Shapiro is a friend who he has a lot of disagreements with.

Ben Shapiro made an appearance on the Full Send Podcast a few days ago where he discussed a variety of things. During the show, host Kyle Forgeard asked Shapiro about an interesting rumor about the release of Brittney Griner. Forgeard further pointed out that he saw a post that suggested rapper Kanye ‘Ye’ West was supposed to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and get Griner released.

He noted that the rumor claimed President Joe Biden agreed to the prisoner swap deal only because he knew Russia would release Griner after Ye’s meeting with Putin. Shapiro replied sarcastically, “That seems like a lot of reliable sources speaking about really important topics.”

Shapiro then proceeded to give his general take on the prisoner swap deal. He stated that the country should do everything possible to bring every American citizen home. However, he did not agree with the White House Press Secretary saying it was important to bring Griner back because of her race and sexuality. Shapiro questioned why should Griner’s race and sexuality make her more important than others.
