A marvel comeback from down 0-3 ended rather upsettingly for the Boston Celtics. Playing a pivotal Game 7 at the TD Garden, a spot in the finals was up for grabs. They had done all the hard work and beaten the odds to host a Game 7 in front of their crowd. However, the three straight wins didn’t seem to account for the momentum they needed with the season on the line. Jayson Tatum and Co shrank under the lights, losing 103-84 to the Miami Heat.
The fanbase no wonder was devastated and disgusted by the Celtics’ Game 7 performance. Saddened by the loss, a longtime fan of the franchise, tennis star Nick Kyrgios even went as far as burning his jersey.

Kyrgios has followed the Boston Celtics ever since 2006. His fan story began when he thought the logo of the organization looked ‘cool’. Since that day, he fell in love with the Celtics. Staying up late at night, throwing fits, raging, and celebrating, he has done it all. The same passion he delivers on the tennis court, he embodies as a fan of the Celtics. So, you can imagine what it felt like for the 28-year-old to watch them lose in that manner.
Forcing a Game 7 gave the Kyrgios and millions of Celtics fans hope – there was a chance to be back in the NBA Finals. However, their expectations and excitement were soon swapped by an emptiness after watching Boston get annihilated by Jimmy Butler‘s Miami Heat. “Would have preferred to get swept. What a putrid performance.” tweeted an enraged Kyrgios after the Celtics’ agonizing Game 7 loss.

But that wasn’t all that he did. The tennis star also took to his Instagram stories to react to the loss. He shared a video of himself burning a Jayson Tatum Celtics jersey. A perfect tune, ‘The Sound of Silence’ from 1964, played in the background to capture the emotional moment.

However, due to the wind and the minute size of the lighter, he couldn’t successfully burn the jersey – or maybe he just couldn’t get himself to abandon the team he has loved for almost half his life.
The fans’ frustrations are well understood. The Boston Celtics played an underwhelming Game 7. The ace, Jayson Tatum scored only 14 points in the elimination game. The team-high tally was 19 by Jaylen Brown. Only three Celtic stars scored in double digits. On the contrary, the Miami Heat looked like the better side, calmer, more prepared, and walking each step with confidence as if it didn’t matter that they were in enemy territory.
