Stephen Curry might be the centerpiece of the Golden State Warriors but there is another player who is lauded by many as the heart of the franchise; Draymond Green. The 33-year-old is a leader who contributes to the team without scoring. His defensive skills are a major reason for his success on the basketball court. However, according to a former Super Bowl winner, he is a “defensive liability“. This made the 2017 DPOY give him a befitting reply on his Instagram.

Green is noted in the basketball universe for his outspoken behavior. The four-time NBA champion has never hesitated to respond to his critics and this time was no different.

Recently, ESPN analysts Max Kellerman and Keyshawn Johnson discussed whether this was the last chance for the Warriors to win a championship with Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson. In one instance, the 2002 Super Bowl winner started talking about the 2017 DPOY. He said, “Even though offensively and then at times, which was weird, he was a defensive liability at times because of his offense and output. They had to kind of get him off the court. I wonder if that changes this year and that was really only in the Finals.”

Subsequently added, “I wonder if it changes for him this year because he essentially is the heart and soul and the Energizer Bunny of the team, which is extremely important to have on the floor at times. But then he also becomes a little bizarre…It’s just a lot with Draymond.”

Green is a social media junkie and often shares a myriad of posts on social media. This time he used it to give a reply to the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR. He shared the part of the video where Johnson calls him a defensive liability on his Instagram story.

The four-time All-Star captioned the video, “This is why I stay in my lane and speak about what I know…that man said a defensive liability (a string of laughing emojis). Keep talking football OG! You an animal in that dept. Like super tough!!!” Green’s statements implied that he doesn’t give any opinions on topics that he isn’t knowledgeable about and also advised Johnson to do the same.

Green’s performance this season

The four-time NBA champion has always been a key player for the Warriors and this season was no different. Till now, he has played 73 games in the 2022-23 season. In those games, he has averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1 steal, and 0.6 blocks. Incidentally, as of now, he and the Warriors are preparing to face the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the playoffs tonight.
