A truckload of problems hit the shoulders of the Los Angeles Lakers last season. Likewise, the purple and gold were expected to attack the off-season aggressively. Notably, their major target was to find a decent trade for Russell Westbrook. However, just a month away from the action, their biggest move has been signing Brodie’s arch nemesis, Patrick Beverley. That was until now, as the 17-time champions might have taken a completely different route.

NFL’s enthralling Week 3 action saw the Indianapolis Colts snatch a win against the Kansas City Chiefs. QB Matt Ryan shined bright connecting for a touchdown in the dying 24 seconds of the game. The game left generational QB Patrick Mahomes stunned. The 37-year-old ruled in the clutch to help the Colts win their first game of the season. However, it seems he generated a buzz outside the NFL too.

Notably, the Laker’s next move in the off-season was to sign Matt Ryan to a non-guaranteed contract. However, it isn’t the man fans think.

Lakers sign G League talent from Boston

As Shams Charania reported, “The Lakers plan to sign G/F Matt Ryan on a non-guaranteed deal” the NBA family was left scratching their heads. However, the purple and gold’s new signing is far from the Colt’s Matt Ryan. A young talent who is yet to break through, Ryan went undrafted in 2020. He later struck luck as the Boston Celtics picked up the 6’7″ player, but that lasted just a single game.

Ryan stood out in the G league campaign. Catching the eyes of the Lakers, the 25-year-old put up nearly 20 points per game. Putting up splits of 19.4 points, 2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game, his attributes arguably fit the Lakers’ attitude perfectly. With a sweet stroke, he can consistently convert 41% of his three points attempts.

Observing LeBron James, the four-time MVP has been at his best with quality shooters around. Ryan can likely be a dark horse as far as the Los Angeles Lakers are considered. Having a solid backup forward might come in handy for the Lakers who are coming off one of their worst seasons.
