UConn offers a historic contract to NCAA winner

The University of Connecticut walked into the NCAA tournament as a fourth seed. However, their performance in it would have you think they were the greatest college team ever. A dominant run throughout the tournament saw them clinch the title in a relatively easy fashion.
The team enjoyed double-digit victories in every single one of their matches. And while they enjoyed strong performances from Adama Sonogo and Jordan Hawkins, one man was at the center of all of it.

In a time when coaching matters more than ever, it was Dan Hurley that received most of the praise for the Huskies’ exceptional run. Now, he gets contractual compensation as well. As ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported, Hurley has signed a new deal through the 2028-2029 season.
The contract, among the richest in the history of college basketball, accounts for about $33 million over six years. As Woj reported, the contract’s true value could be even higher with incentives. With Monty Williams signing a historic new deal as well, perhaps it is the year for expensive coaches.
Or well, the expensive coaches trend started last year in December.
Colorado signs ‘Prime Time’ Deion Sanders
Colorado signed Deion Sanders as their football head coach on December 4, 2022. However, they revealed the terms of his historic 5-year $29.5 million contract. With such a historic amount, Colorado showed their support for Prime.

The contract is the largest financial package ever given to a CU football coach. They’ve broken the contract down into multiple pieces based on different indexes. But, the total amount could become even higher than the nearly 30 million reported.
Sanders’s contract stipulates that he will earn $5.5 million in his first season, which includes a base salary of $500,000 plus $1.75 million for radio, television, and public appearances; $1.75 million for promotion and fundraising; and $1.5 million for “development of the student-athlete.”

With coaches getting the rightful respect they deserve, perhaps a change is in order.
