Ja Morant has been in the eye of the storm for the past few weeks. The point guard has time and again faced scrutiny for his off-court misconduct. Morant was suspended after a video emerged on Instagram, which had the star flaunting a firearm. During a recent episode of The Idiots, a popular YouTube podcast hosted by Charlamagne tha God, stand-up comedian Andrew Schulz shared his perspective on the controversy surrounding Morant. In his discussion, Schulz highlighted the financial implications for NBA players and how their off-court behavior can impact their earnings.
On being asked about Ja Morants’ conduct, the comedian described the NBA player’s actions as foolish as he stated: “It’s incredibly stupid.”
The comedian further added, “I just think that like the NBA players start to disassociate the money they are making from their behavior and I think that’s the biggest issue right there.”
Schulz, who has over three million followers on Instagram and Twitter combined, commented on the perceived sense of entitlement among NBA players due to their lucrative and secure careers. In addition to this, he contrasted this with the reality faced by comedians.

The American comic highlighted that if a comedian were to have a series of poor performances, their demand and opportunities would significantly diminish, “he makes half a million dollars every two weeks whether the team wins or loses. If we suck a bunch of weeks in a row like our numbers take a hit, and our potential money in the future take a hit.”
Morant’s actions may affect his NBA earnings
Schulz pointed out that if Morant’s salary were contingent on the team’s success in winning a championship, he would be less likely to find himself entangled in off-court issues. Ja Morant, the highest-earning player in the history of the Memphis Grizzlies, signed a substantial contract worth $194 million over five years. As part of his contract, Morant had the potential to earn an additional $39 million bonus if he were selected for any All-NBA team.
