The Duke forward’s tenure with the Pelicans been rocky, to say the least. Zion Williamson has had to face constant battles with injuries, limiting him to just 114 out of a possible 308 games in his career. Yet when healthy, he is the unstoppable force. His brute strength and freakish athleticism arguably make him one of the best young talents in the league. But is it worth the risk it comes with?
For the first few seasons, it looked like the Pelicans don’t mind playing the waiting game. However, after the recent events involving Williamson and Mills, the landscape might have changed. Notably, the adult star has made multiple accusations about Williamson and even shared private conversations on her Twitter.
Then there is also the decision regarding their future going into the NBA. The Pelicans have a truckload of talents such as Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum, among others, to make for a competing roster. Given his off-court troubles and difficulties to stay healthy, the Pelicans might push the button. In his three seasons with the franchise, the 22-year-old has averaged 25.8 points, 7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Judging by his numbers, it might come off as foolish for the Pelicans to entertain trading their centerpiece. However, will his long absences and them paying him $33.5 million for the coming season, it comes down to weighing out the best option for their future.
