Last season was filled with plenty of ups and downs. Although the biggest headlines were players getting injured, there was some stellar scoring that we saw from plenty of others. In fact, there were some unexpected teams that went way deeper into the playoffs than expected and some of the elite teams were left behind. That pretty much sums up the entirety of the 2020-21 season. And if we had to rank the best isolation players of that season, the list would be just as surprising as the season itself. Zion topping Kevin Durant!
Zion Williamson surpasses Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry
There are some incredible isolation players in the league, with James Harden taking the cake most of the top as the number one player. But last season was very different. While most would think that Harden’s teammate, Kevin Durant might have replaced him instead. Wrong! As per Basketball news, 44 NBA players logged at least 100 iso shot attempts. So the FG% leaders were:
1. Zion Williamson – 56.9%
2. Kevin Durant – 52.9%
3. DeMar DeRozan – 52.6%
4. Zach LaVine – 51.3%
5. Stephen Curry – 50%
This is definitely an eye-opener. On one hand, Zion’s New Orleans Pelicans didn’t even make it to the postseason. They stayed put on the 11th standing in the Western Conference. And the reason it’s coming off as a surprise is that there is no way the 21-year-old surpassed some of the league’s top scorers.

This should not come as a shock
Ever since Zion entered the league, has done nothing but prove himself. He was, undoubtedly, the top post player, with his shooting percentages sky high, deeming himself as unstoppable. And of course, let’s not forget his magnificent dunks that have us replay it again and again.

The only way the defense was able to prevent him from making more buckets was by double-teaming him and fouling him. It was because of this strategy that Zion ended up benched last season, leaving the Pelicans helpless and with no hope of landing a place in the playoffs.
One can only hope that Zion makes an incredible comeback, and get an even better superstar treatment than he does now. If he is already breaking records set by players like Durant and Steph, it’s only upwards from here.
