Zion Williamson is now ready to return and play for the New Orleans Pelicans. Williamson has said that he is willing to sign a new max five-year contract with the team. But there are doubts within the franchise about the contract they are going to offer him. Zion has been injured for the whole season and as of yet, nobody knows whether he will be worth the $186 million dollars or not.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, this might just be what the front office of the Pelicans are thinking by not offering him his max contract. Now, whether he will stay or not is a big question.
The Pelicans organization isn’t willing to offer Zion a fully guaranteed 5-year max contract.
“They’ll offer him a huge contract, but aren’t expected to guarantee all of it.”

Why would you guarantee a contract for a talent who’s proven he can’t stay on the floor? As much of a star as Zion could be, he’s had a lot of health issues already and I wouldn’t guarantee that contract nor would I offer him the max #WBD https://t.co/7E6ascXU5E

During the month of December, officials stated that his injury was too slow to heal hence he would be taking more than four to six weeks off and would come back around the All Star break. After that period also passed, the team had to finally admit that he won’t play this season.
Zion not playing led to rumors of him leaving the Pelicans for greener pastures. But, he had rubbished those and mentioned that he was excited about playing next year for them.
