Zach Lavine is a shooting guard who plays for the Chicago Bulls. He is one of the most exciting players to watch and this season; he has elevated himself to one of the league’s best. Chiefly, he’s the leader of the Chicago Bulls team who is currently second in the East. The Bulls are looking really good and having added DeMar DeRozan and Lonzo Ball, making this team look like a potential super team in the future.

But Zach was part of another potential super team. He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2014 NBA Draft. They also had the first pick in the draft, which they used to draft Andrew Wiggins.

In 2015, they again had the number one pick which resulted in Karl Anthony Towns being drafted. The trio were really good young players, and they had the potential to be something special. Both Towns and Wiggins had won the Rookie of the Year in the respective debut seasons and Zach was a two-time slam dunk champion.

Zach Lavine was recently on Draymond Green’s podcast where he talked about various things. He was asked by Green why things didn’t work with the Wolves and the trio. Zach said, ” We were 18, 19 years old, all together, you know sharing the court, nothing is going to be perfect… Realistically we only had two to three years to really like, everyone wanted the process to happen so fast… Us be good so fast.”

“Those were my guys. It was really fun but like you said, I don’t think they let it marinate enough for us to really see what could have happened,”

Even though the Wolves had a lot of young talent, they didn’t have a lot of success. They finally pulled the plug on the trio, when Zach was traded to the Chicago Bulls for Jimmy Butler in 2017. Zach, who was injured at the time of the trade, didn’t make his debut until 2018.

Slowly, he developed his game, improving his scoring year by year. He became one of the league’s best scorers in 2020, averaging a career-high 27.4 PPG. This earned Zach his first All-Star selection.
