The new season began with the Brooklyn Nets suffering a 130-108 loss against the New Orleans Pelicans on opening night.?Following his time of 23 minutes on the court, Ben Simmons fouled out after scoring 4 points, collecting 5 rebounds, and making 5 assists. In the aftermath of the game, the Nets’ guard Kyrie Irving commented on Simmons’ performance and mentioned the value he adds to the team.?

“As we told him in the locker room, he’s a valuable piece for us and we need him out there. And fouling out is not an option. Playing aggressive is something that we want him to do, but we also want to play smart,” Irving added.

Having been traded by the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for James Harden back in February, this is the three-time All-Star’s first game with the Nets. During the previous season, he was unable to play due to a herniated disk in his back.
