Just a week ago, Dwyane Wade was cheering for his daughter Zaya at the Met Gala, proudly declaring his support for trans rights and acceptance. Florida lawmakers, meanwhile, have been pushing anti-trans legislation, including bills that restrict gender-affirming care for minors, limiting access to restrooms for transgender students and individuals, and even banning drag performances and pride celebrations. Throughout all the hardships, Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, has been extra supportive of their children after she publicly expressed her feelings.

The former Heat player is vocal in his opposition to these measures, calling out lawmakers and warning them of the slippery slope they represent. Throughout it all, Wade and Union have been standing by their daughter, modeling the kind of acceptance and support parents should strive for.
