Rap and NBA have a relationship that dates back to the genesis of hip-hop itself. Many NBA players have turned rappers. Shaquille O’Neal is a prime example of that. His album even sold a million copies. The same goes for many others in the current and previous generations of NBA. Whereas, rappers have had NBA ambitions too, where the case of J Cole is prominent. There are many such examples. Therefore, it is not surprising when rappers get a shout-out from NBA royalty.
This happened when a big-shot rapper released an album. James Harden and Michael Jordan’s son Marcus Jordan gave him a shot-out.

The new album took this long because the music artist was arrested due to gang-related charges in May 2022. Along with him, Gunna, Deamonte ‘Yak Gotti’ Kendrick, and various other members of Young Stoners’ life were also arrested due to gang-related violations. While Gunna pleaded guilty to one of the violations and was released in December last year, Young Thug has pleaded not guilty and continues to be incarcerated. The Atlanta-based musician has kept on fighting the cases in court.

The current generation of NBA rappers
There are a lot of current NBA players who have tried their luck at rapping. One of the most prominent among them is Damian Lillard. His hip-hop moniker is Dame D.O.L.L.A. He has released four albums thus far and has collaborated with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne.
Former Knicks player Iman Shumpert also has engaged in this business and possesses a smooth flow but if we go into the number of NBA players who have tried pro-level rapping, the list is non-exhaustive, even LeBron James has done so!
