Michael Jordan grew up with his siblings in Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan as a kid was challenged by his brother for basketball matchups. The two had many intense court battles and had to be separated during games because every game ended up in a fight. Jordan wanted to become as good as his brother and was driven by him to work hard. Larry Jordan, the elder brother of Michael Jordan, was as good as the black Jesus in the initial stages.
Larry has a strong bond with Michael and would have played in the NBA if he was tall. Unfortunately, Larry being 5 feet 8 inches tall, had a major impediment in his basketball career. However, he played a season in the World Basketball League. The league was specifically for players who are 6 feet 4 inches and shorter, and Larry had the ability to dunk effortlessly. Larry led his team, the Chicago Express to the Finals, where they lost to the Las Vegas Silver Streaks.
Back in 1990, in an interview with Chicago Tribune, Larry Jordan made a confession about his brother. Michael Jordan’s fame at that time was still going up the roof. Larry revealed that he was overshadowed by his brother’s beyond-iconic popularity. Larry said “I`m proud of him. For me, it was pretty hard at first always being perceived as Michael Jordan’s brother. You lose your own identity. It`s something I`ve learned to deal with.”
Michael Jordan’s brother reveals his dreams
Larry, who handled much of the purchasing for Flight 23, reflected on his dreams and expressed his surprise at how his own aspirations became linked with sports. He never anticipated a connection to the sports industry, as his passion had always been inclined toward cars. Larry said ”We all had our dreams, I didn’t figure it would be connected with sports. I`ve always liked cars and I figured it would be something related to that.”
Larry envisioned a future related to automobiles rather than sports. However, he ended up with the latter one. Larry now works as the Vice President of player personnel with the NBA team Charlotte Hornets.
