The NBA off-season is in full swing as players have been showing out at the Summer League. LeBron James surprisingly joined Chicago Bulls DeMar DeRozan to play a game at the Drew League after 11 years. While LeBron and DeRozan dominated the action, the Drew League commissioner was left disappointed with Kyrie Irving for not showing up.

The commissioner of the Drew League, Dino Smiley, said Irving was expected to be present for at least one game. He said, “I don?t know. They were pretty sure he was coming. But you know how Kyrie is. I guess he changed his mind in the middle of it.”

His comments felt like a little shot at the 7-time All-Star. Kyrie Irving has had quite a few issues over the past couple of years. He has only played 96 games in the last two seasons including the playoffs. While the duo of Irving and Kevin Durant was expected to be a major player in the championship picture, the two of them have only managed to play 44 games together in three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets.

After a disappointing first-round sweep against the Boston Celtics in the playoffs, Irving was expected to move on from the Brooklyn Nets. However, he opted into the final year of his contract. Meanwhile, Durant requested a trade just before the start of free agency. The futures of both of the Nets’ stars are still up in the air at this point.

The Nets are looking for a historic return for Durant while Kyrie has had very few suitors. Irving’s off-court antics are well known and teams are hesitant in bringing him to their rosters.

Having Irving on the court would have likely made it even more memorable for the fans present. Things haven’t worked out that way yet and this has become an all too familiar situation regarding Irving.
