In 2014, NBA great Dwyane Wade and actress Gabrielle Union got married. The couple looked happy and beautiful together, and they were surrounded by their family, including Wade’s children with his ex-wife. 

Their relationship has only grown stronger after that date, as Union became the stepmother of Wade’s three children: twenty-year-old Zaire, fourteen-year-old Zaya, and eight-year-old Xavier Wade.

In their first year of marriage, the couple welcomed their daughter together, who was named Kaavia James Union Wade. It was a wonderful moment for the family, especially for Union, who had endured many hardships in bringing her child into the world, who was born via surrogacy. 

According to what she has said, she took unsuccessful IVF rounds and suffered a long journey to try and get pregnant. In addition to discussing this, she has been very open about her journey to becoming a mother. The ‘Bring It On’ star opened up about many topics in a recent interview; including her life, her relationship, and her career goals.

Additionally, she discussed her recent Met Gala look and the theme they chose for their fashion choices. During the conversation with Extra, she also mentioned that she had built her relationships with her stepchildren gradually. In particular, when it comes to her stepdaughter Zaya.

Before his ex-spouse’s allegations, Dwyane Wade‘s wife worked towards building bridges with Zaya. It was reported recently that Wade’s ex-wife made some allegations, claiming in a court filing that he is profiting from his daughter’s “name and gender change.”

There has been much discussion about this object, as Wade has also spoken about this. “I’ve received a social media post about me, forcing our 15-year-old child to be someone she’s not and to do something against her will,” the Miami Heat legend said in an Instagram post addressing the allegations. 

In addition to this accusation, Union talked about her relationship with her stepchild. She explained that it takes time for a bond to be formed. “It takes time and consistency to build trust, to then feel open and to be honest and to be vulnerable with one another, and you can’t step in and assume any role that doesn’t actually exist.”
