Just as we think that Luka Doncic can’t get any better, he goes ahead and saves the day for the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks had an incredible last-second win against the Memphis Grizzlies, thanks to Doncic’s game-winner. After losing two back-to-back games, this was a win they desperately needed, and as usual, Luka came through for them.

Luka Doncic does his best superman impression

This win has moved them another step closer to landing the sixth spot in the Western Conference. If they manage that and stay there, the Dallas Mavericks won’t have to be a participant in the play-in tournament.

Doncic wasn’t for the play-in and openly criticized the concept as well. But Doncic’s comments received criticism as Kendrick Perkins called him out to play better so he doesn’t have to be a part of it at all.

Looks like Doncic took it to his heart and is willing to go to any lengths to get a victory for Dallas. With less than 1.8 seconds left, the Mavericks were trailing by 2 points and the score was 113-111.

As the clock was ticking, the Mavs gave Doncic the ball to do his magic, and he did exactly that. Just barely away from the three-point line, he hoisted the ball, and as he stumbled and tried to gain his balance, the ball dropped in the basket. This gave the Mavericks their dramatic 114-113 win against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The shot was so impressive that even LeBron James couldn’t help but praise Doncic. He posted on Twitter, “WOW WOW WOW!!!!! Cmon you ain’t serious man!!” and even tagged Luka.

Why doesn’t the Dallas Mavericks star want a play-in tournament?

The concept of a play-in tournament is pretty simple. Teams that land on the seventh and eighth spot in the standings have to battle each other for the seventh spot. And those who finish ninth and tenth have to battle it out as a last chance to grab a spot in the playoffs.

Whoever wins between the ninth and tenth team battles the loser of the seventh and eighth team. What Luka doesn’t understand is why a team’s fate in the postseason should be determined by two more losses. They clearly have proved themselves already.

However, the concept has been put in place to make teams work harder. As the season nears its end, games become less intense as teams already know their fate. This gives them a boost to work harder and get more wins to land the sixth seed or higher.
