There was a time when NBA legends Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen were on the same team. In 1999, 6-time champion Pippen joined the Houston Rockets to play alongside Chuck and Hakeem Olajuwon which ended terribly. The playoff blunder created quite some drama between the 1993 MVP and Pippen. However, things went out of hand when Michael Jordan was pulled into the controversy. Why was Charles Barkley furious at Michael Jordan for Scottie Pippen’s “Fat Bu**” claim?

It all started when the Houston Rockets?got demolished by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 1999 playoffs. After a 3-1 defeat to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, the Rockets made a huge decision by trading Pippen to the Portland Trailblazers. Well, the 7-time All-Star did not love it. Scottie Pippen had some harsh words for his teammate Barkley before he left.?

In 1999, Barkley believed Pippen owed him an apology for the postseason failure and his lack of involvement in the offense. However, Pippen did not seem bothered about the accusation and he revealed he wouldn’t apologize to the 11-time All-Star even if he was at gunpoint. It further escalated from here.?

Pippen also added,?“He owes me an apology for coming to play with his sorry fat bu**.” Moreover, after insulting Barkley, Pippen revealed MJ had agreed with him. According to the book, MJ agreeing to Pippen’s statement made him angry.?

Surprisingly, the 14-time All-Star had a different narrative. According to Barkley’s book, Jordan said to him,?“You know I’d never say that about you. And If I wanted to say it, I’d say it to your face.” The 6-time champion kept it real as usual. Barkley and MJ have had their rivalry, but the latter clarified that he was not involved here.?
