Chris Paul is one of the greatest facilitators the NBA has ever seen. He is a genius in the half-court offensive sets. When it comes to pure basketball IQ, there are few guys who can have a case for being better than ‘CP3’. In essence, he makes everyone around him better. Yet, he has a few performances which have tarnished his legacy as one of the all-time greats.

Most recently, his Phoenix Suns, the team with the best record in the league, got humiliated by Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs obliterated the Suns in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Even worse, it happened at the Suns’ home court. By doing so, Paul became the first player ever to blow five 2-0 leads in a best-of-seven series.

Same old story for Chris Paul

It wasn’t surprising to see Paul’s team losing from a much more favorable position. On top of the above-mentioned stat, his Los Angeles Clippers lost a series after leading 3-1 to the Houston Rockets. Obviously, he is not the main reason his teams have had so many meltdowns, but facts are facts.

Chris Paul has had some of his worst games under the highest of pressures. After going up 2-0 against the Mavs, Paul averaged 9.4 pts, 5.8 last, and 3.6 turnovers over the final five games.

There is no doubting Paul’s excellence, but for someone of his quality, it is disappointing to see how many massive failures he has had. Unfortunately for him, people don’t forget these kinds of things too quickly. One fan who met him recently even trolled him for his part in the State Farm commercials.

CP3 has become an easy target for some banter by the fans. This has often led to hilarious memes on social media websites and this probably wouldn’t please Paul at all. He will want to be remembered as an all-time great point guard, instead, he is trolled for his team’s various meltdowns.

Fans have fun on Twitter

Paul is one of the greatest players to have not won an NBA championship. The fans were quick to get in on the fun at Paul’s expense. They didn’t hold back with takes such as, “Y’all got the same number of rings”.

Paul will likely go into the NBA Hall of Fame one day, but he will be hoping he wins at least one ring before he decides to retire. Time is running out for him, though. He is 37-years-old and this Phoenix Suns team will probably be his last hope for a shot at the Larry O’Brien trophy.
