Kyrie Irving is one of the most polarizing superstars of all time. While he is an excellent basketball player, his off-court activities have caused quite a stir among NBA fans. Recently, Kyrie has been linked with a move away from Brooklyn.

The whole saga has annoyed the Nets fanbase as the star duo of himself and Kevin Durant hasn’t come close to winning a championship. They’ve been together for three years now but have played just 44 games together.

Fans and media have been going at Irving ever since reports about him wanting out of Brooklyn came out. They have accused him of destroying the franchises he’s been on. While his Nets tenure hasn’t gone as well as he would have hoped, his exits from both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics didn’t help him make any friends either.

Irving responded to critics by reminding everyone he is an NBA champion and an Olympic Gold medalist. He accused them of using his name to make money.

Kyrie doesn’t shy away from letting his feelings known to the public. Whatever issues the media or the fans might have with him, the fact remains that he’s a champion.

Kyrie Irving has been misfortunate since leaving Cleveland

After going to 3 straight NBA Finals with the Cleveland Cavaliers and winning the championship in historic fashion in 2016, Irving demanded a trade so that he could get out of LeBron James‘ shadow. His wish was granted when the Cavs traded him to a young Boston Celtics team.

Saying his stint in Boston was not good would be an understatement. While the Celtics reached the Conference Finals in Irving’s first year there, he missed the postseason due to injury. In his second year, the Celtics were eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks in the Conference Semis.

After assuring the Boston fans of his commitment to the team, Kyrie signed for the Brooklyn Nets instead in 2019. The 6’2″ point guard had a debut to remember as he scored 50 points. He missed the postseason again because of an injury. The next season was much better for Irving and the Nets, but they got eliminated in the Conference Semis by the eventual champions Milwaukee.

The 2021-22 season was probably the worst season for Irving as he wasn’t allowed to play in Brooklyn due to his insistence on not getting vaccinated. He played only 29 games as the Nets got swept by the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
