The Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving has frequently dipped his toes in the quicksand of controversy. The Mavs star recently elicited the attention of the fans with a shocking trade update. Irving consistently made it to the news headlines after he forced a move out from the Brooklyn Nets. After his trade to the Dallas side, he remained out of the fan’s attention for a brief period. However, the star has again triggered a heated debate among fans after a heartfelt tribute.
The 30-year-old star made his 8th All-Star appearance this year. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James picked the fourth-quarter king to his team in the NBA All-Star draft. While it’s a tradition for the stars to flaunt their new gear during the All-Star weekend, Irving went a notch up by sporting a unique sneaker for the second half of the Sunday night game.

Kyrie Irving donned a unique sneaker that seemed to have a connection to his indigenous roots. Irving embraced the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe after discovering his origins with the tribe in 2018. Moreover, he found his mother Elizabeth’s association with the tribe much later, as he lost her at four. Additionally, the Mavs star stitched his mother’s name and the date 9-9-96 on his first edition of signature shoes with Nike. Notably, the leading sports brand cut its ties with the star earlier this season over the point guard’s anti-semitic stance. Since then, Irving has been creatively hiding the brand’s logo during the games.
An image of the sneaker surfaced on Twitter, triggering a debate in the comments section among the fans. One user said, “He’s showing respect to the ancestors and y’all call him a clown? About right.” Following are some reactions from NBA Twitter:

His mother was part of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. She died when he was 4. He met with the tribe and became an official member in 2021. All of you dissing him for this are the clowns. Respect the man for embracing his genetic heritage. Y'all should be ashamed.
