Fox News contributor and prominent conservative commentator Tomi Lahren took a dig at Brittney Griner on social media following her nine-year sentencing in Russia for drug possession charges. The 30-year-old highlighted the WNBA star’s previous comments on the national anthem to taunt her current predicament. In other words, Lahren tweeted that Brittney Griner is probably pleased with her sentencing because she wouldn’t have to listen to the American national anthem for nine years.

Earlier this month, Russian courts sentenced Griner to nine years in prison for trafficking illicit drugs. In February, Russian authorities found vape cartridges and cannabis oil in the Phoenix Mercury star’s belongings. Griner pleaded guilty admitting inadvertent guilt and claiming that the marijuana in her possession had been prescribed for medical purposes.

However, the Russian judiciary refused to condone the 31-year-old athlete’s actions. Following her verdict, several conservative voices pointed out the irony in Griner’s situation highlighting the WNBA star’s plentiful criticism of America.

Meanwhile, conservative TV personality Tomi Lahren refused to take the high ground after Brittney Griner’s sentencing earlier this month. “On the bright side, B Griner won?t have to endure our National Anthem for 9 whole years! What a win for her,” Lahren wrote sarcastically on Twitter.

The 30-year-old conservative commentator shot into fame after her videos espousing support for Donald Trump and conservative talking points went viral on the Internet. Currently, she makes regular appearances as a contributor on several shows across Fox News and Fox Business networks. In addition, she also hosts a talk show on Fox Nation.

Meanwhile, Lahren is, by no means, a singular voice in criticizing Griner’s national anthem remarks. Conservative radio host Larry Elder has also taunted the 2014 WNBA champion for her stance on the Star-Spangled Banner.
