In February, WNBA star Brittney Griner was arrested at Moscow?s Sheremetyevo airport. Because her luggage contained cannabis oil vape cartridges. Griner played part-time for a Russian team. She pled guilty but revealed that she had packed in a hurry. And it was not her intention to break Russian law. The Olympic Gold medalist was charged with drug trafficking, which could see her imprisoned for up to 10 years.

Griner spoke with a media member for the first time since she was arrested. She was back in court for another hearing in her drug case. And she spoke with a producer behind bars inside the Moscow courtroom. As per reports, Griner said that she wants to wish her wife Cherelle Griner good luck for her bar exam. Cherelle has been studying to become a lawyer.

Griner continued that she’s “just waiting patiently” for a resolution in her drug case. She also held up a photo of her wife minutes before the talk with the reporter.

The US trying to get Brittney Griner back to the country

As per reports, Griner’s legal team argued she used medical cannabis to help deal with her injuries and was not using the drug recreationally. However, they maintained that Brittney Griner brought it to Russia involuntarily.

Also, a Russian neuropsychologist testified about the worldwide use of medicinal cannabis.

One of Griner’s lawyers said that the Russian public and the Russian court have to know, that it was not used for recreational purposes in the United States. And that a doctor prescribed it.

The trial of Griner began on July 1. However, only 5 sessions have been held so far. This has raised a lot of criticism from teammates and supporters in the United States.

A lot of athletes have come in support of the WNBA star. The Boston Celtics wore “We Are BG” t-shirts in support of Griner’s case during the NBA finals. The slogan has become popular in the WNBA this season.

NBA superstars Jayson Tatum, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry also voiced their support recently. A furious James criticized the efforts of the US to get Griner back. He said, ?Now, how can she feel like America has her back??

The United States is trying to get the Olympian to return home, but Russia is not making it very easy for her.
