WNBA Star Brittney Griner and Wife Cherelle?s Met Gala Debut Drives Phoenix Mercury Star to Poke Fun at the Couple

WNBA star Brittney Griner has her life slowly and steadily moving toward normalcy after her grueling months in a Russian prison. Griner has received an overwhelming response from the public since her return to home soil. Moreover, a few months after her return, she made her Met Gala debut along with her wife Cherelle on Monday. Griner?s star teammate took to her social media to poke fun at the couple and their preparation for the event.

Every year, several stars from the hoops community make appearances on the Met Gala red carpet. Superstars like Dwyane Wade, Stephen Curry?and Russell Westbrook have dazzled at the event in the last few years. Following in the NBA stars’ footsteps, the WNBA icon made her Met Gala debut along with her wife.

The power couple sported custom Calvin Klein outfits at the Gala. Brittney Griner wore a long beige coat, matching trousers and a sheer top. Notably, the WNBA star had promised herself to never wear a dress after high school. Her wife, Cherelle, dazzled in a white strapless gown.?

Grinner?s star teammate, Brianna Turner, tickled the couple’s funny bone, reacting to their photo from the event. She retweeted the couple’s video clip from the Gala and wrote, ?I hope she took her playbook with her learning new sets daily during training camp.??

Griner played her last WNBA game in October 2021, and recently announced her return to the Phoenix Mercury in a special Michael Jordan-style gesture.

Hours before their Met Gala debut, the couple also delivered a powerful message in support of victims of wrongful confinement. At the White House correspondent dinner, the couple said, ?Our prayers go out to the families [of Gershkovich and Tice]. Reporting is not a crime, and we must bring them home.? Moreover, the star also intends to spread awareness about the issue through her upcoming book.?
