Cherelle Griner, the wife of Brittney Griner, has been the WNBA star’s biggest supporter during the toughest phase of her life. Cherelle recently shared her thoughts on the whole situation after a Russian court denied Griner’s appeal and upheld her nine-year sentence. During the interview, BG’s wife revealed her one major wish that forced the Phoenix Mercury center to play in Russia and supplement the low salary in the WNBA.

Brittney Griner is stuck in Russia for over eight months now. Airport authorities first detained her in February for carrying vape cartridges filled with cannabis oil in her belongings. Cherelle Griner further stated that it was really disheartening for her to see BG’s appeal being denied on October 25. She understood that every state and country had different rules, but the way Griner has been treated was quite absurd for her. She reckoned that there were convicted murderers in Russia who were handed lesser sentences than Griner.

Cherelle suggested that U.S authorities are her only hope as she could not expect anything from the Russian judicial system. The 29-year-old said, “There’s nothing to expect from a legal standpoint and all eggs are in the basket, you know, for our government and for America to see how important the issue is.
