The Los Angeles Lakers are doing everything possible to land Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets. While it has been difficult to convince the Nets, the lack of potential suitors for Irving may force them to accept the Lakers’ offer. Neither team will be in any hurry though, and things could drag on till the summer camp. LeBron James has been touted as a big supporter of a potential trade for Irving.

The Nets reportedly want future first-round picks and All-Star caliber players in exchange for both their disgruntled superstars Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. According to reports, the Lakers are hesitant to include multiple future first-round picks for Irving. However, franchise superstar LeBron James doesn’t seem to care about future picks.
LeBron James has almost always managed to convince the teams he’s been with to trade their draft assets and young players for established veterans and stars. Although it has resulted in a championship everywhere he’s been, those teams have arguably found it hard to rebuild once he’s gone.

The Los Angeles Lakers already traded their young players and multiple picks to acquire Anthony Davis in 2019. They are hesitant to do the same for Kyrie Irving. While a trade for Irving will automatically push them towards title contention, it will likely be at the cost of their future. And there is no guarantee that Irving will continue with the Lakers after next season.
Irving’s off-court antics have put off many potential suitors. Although the Lakers will likely have to part with Russell Westbrook, that won’t be a concern for the front office.
LeBron James is only concerned with winning now
It is understandable why the Lakers don’t want to trade away any more draft assets after last season’s disaster. But having James on the team means franchises do everything to build a championship-winning roster around him. The Cleveland Cavaliers traded away Andrew Wiggins, the first pick in the 2014 draft, for the more established Kevin Love. The same happened when the Lakers acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Brooklyn Nets will likely hold out for the best offer for Irving. They must be looking at keeping the team relevant for a few years while they can go after future superstars in the drafts.

The NBA fans didn’t react kindly to reports of LeBron potentially disregarding the future for present success.
Why would he care if he’s not even going to be around for it

I'm legitimately confused here–
Does Lebron not realize theres a 90% chance Kyrie bounces after 1 year? Why is Lebron (and a large contingency of Lakers fan) acting like theres no risk here?
Am I missing something– the concerns of the Lakers Front Office seem very reasonable

If the Lakers don’t get the deal done over the 2029 pick, they should sell the team. I mean that would be insanity, to waste a potential Bron/Kyrie/AD lineup, for some role player they might get in 2029.

Yeah no shit because he’ll be gone in two years. Look at the Cavs now that they didn’t sell their future for Lebron, Lakers gotta do the same

Why should the Lakers ruin their future even more if Lebron won’t commit past this season with us? We can trade that pick and lose Lebron and Kyrie next offseason
