Boston Celtics’ new addition this 2020-21 season and star guard Jrue Holiday is popularly known for his defensive abilities in the league. Him, along with his wife, Lauren Cheney, make the perfect sports couple.
Lauren Cheney is a former US women’s soccer midfielder who dedicated eight years (2007-15) to the national team. After an open heart surgery as a 3-YO child, Lauren grew up to become a two-time Olympic gold medalist. To add to her list of achievements, she lifted the FIFA World Cup championship in Canada in 2015.

During her initial days, Lauren played for Boston Breakers and FC Kansas City in the NWSL. She also became the first player in NWSL history to have her jersey retired. She had a list of awards to her name during her time at the club. From clinching the MVP award in 2013 and earning the Golden Boot the same year, Lauren became quite the name in her playing career.

How did Jrue Holiday end up with the football talent?
The talented duo first met each other as athletes at U.C.L.A. Jrue eventually got drafted to Philadelphia 76ers in 2009 and the two began their dating life. The Holidays finally announced their marriage in 2013 while Jrue was on his way to play for New Orleans Pelicans.
In 2016, Lauren was diagnosed with a brain tumor while she was six months pregnant with their daughter. Jrue took time off from the league to see to his wife at that time. Well, everything went smoothly and now they have two children.

Sharing a similar profession made the Holidays grow closer during their initial days at U.C.L.A. And since then it’s been a high road for the two. Lauren has been quite supportive as well as honest about Jrue’s performances in public.
Lauren is a 2014 US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year, and the couple maintain a keen interest in each other’s sports lives.
