Michael Jordan performed miracles on the hardwood throughout his career. Especially during his tenure with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan was invincible. For him to be able to get on the world stage and dominate, several miracles had to take place when he was a child. Some even before he was born. During an interview with Vanity Fair in 1998, His Airness talked about one such miracle.

Born to Deloris Jordan and James R. Jordan on 17th February 1963, there was a serious complication at the time of Jordan’s birth. The anchor to his life, his beloved mother had suffered a heartbreaking loss while she was pregnant with NBA’s biggest superstar. Despite her own loss, Deloris was forced to stay in bed so things don’t get any worse.

Jordan’s list of accomplishments might be too long to put into words at once. He has achieved the unthinkable on the court and continues to do so after his retirement. The 6x NBA champion three-peated the NBA title twice. He was the Finals MVP in all six championship wins. 14x NBA All-Star, 5 NBA MVPs, and 3 All-Star MVP awards just barely scratch the surface of his achievements.
Apart from his achievements on the court, Jordan also went on to become the first billionaire to come out of the NBA world. However, all this and much more couldn’t have happened if Deloris’s miscarriage scare wasn’t avoided when she was pregnant with Jordan.

In 1998 the 6x NBA champion was interviewed by Vanity Fair where he detailed the unfortunate incident in his family. He said, “During my mother’s pregnancy with me, her mother died unexpectedly.” While Deloris was mourning the loss of her mother, the doctors feared a miscarriage.

Since there was no other way to avoid this mishap, Jordan’s mother was forced to stay in bed. He added, “According to my father, there was a near miscarriage and there was some question as to whether I would make it or not.” Everything eventually went well at the time and the world got the privilege to witness the greatness of the highest standard.

The great Michael Jordan credits his parents for all his success. Although he performed every bit of action on the court, his parents were his biggest source of motivation. In the recently released movie Air, the world got a glimpse of Deloris’s role in Jordan securing one-of-a-kind deal with Nike.

The Air Jordan collaboration went on to change the world of sneakers and it was Jordan’s mother who made it happen. Additionally, she also pushed for a deal where MJ would get a percentage of the profit from every pair of shoes sold.
