Comedian Bill Burr has generated a lot of controversy over the years for his jokes on various topics, including women’s rights, feminism, and gender equality. However, the backlash against his jokes has not prevented the veteran comedian from addressing gender equality in the WNBA in his recent comedy special. In fact, Burr held feminists and women’s rights activists responsible for the failure of the WNBA to compete with the NBA in terms of equal pay for its athletes.
The issue of gender equality has been a hot topic in American sports for a long time. Various female athletes, like soccer star Megan Rapinoe, have voiced their disagreements regarding the vast disparity in pay between men’s and women’s sports. On the other hand, the counter-argument often made is that the pay in female sports is low because of the stark difference in revenue generated by female athletes.

Meanwhile, Burr has introduced his own unique perspective on the whole issue.
Bill Burr blames feminists for the pay gap in women’s sports
Comedian Bill Burr has provided a unique reason as to why WNBA players don’t get exorbitant contracts like players in the NBA. As it turns out, the 54-year-old thinks it is the fault of feminists and women’s rights advocates.
Burr said, “Look at the WNBA. It’s a male-subsidized league. We gave you a league. None of you showed up. Where are all the feminists? That place should be packed with feminists. None of you went to the games. None of you.”?
He concluded his argument by saying, “You all, you failed them. Not me, not men. Women failed the WNBA.”
New investment in the WNBA
In 2018, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that the WNBA is losing money every year. In fact, the league has averaged a loss of $10 million every year for a while now.

Female basketball players from the USA have always played overseas because of their inadequate wages at home, and the opportunity to make more money playing abroad during the WNBA off-season. However, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has promised that the league is headed towards a better future.
